Over 150 high-quality glass panels on buildings or specially erected sandstone stelae provide information about important personalities, institutions, buildings, inventions and events in the city and its districts at authentic locations in Mannheim. Numerous historical views and maps illustrate the changes in the cityscape over the centuries. The historical city information system - STADTPUNKTE - was commissioned by the municipal council on the occasion of the 400th anniversary in 2007 and is a project of the MARCHIVUM. Five different categories reflect the historical profile of the city of Mannheim. Each panel is assigned to one or more of the following categories:
- Fortress - Planned City - Residence
- Migration - Tolerance - Persecution
- Bourgeoisie - Trade - Industry
- Democracy - Workers' Movement - Resistance
- Lively City - Wounded City - Modern Metropolis
All panels are not only available on the MARCHIVUM homepage, but also via the free APP "Mannheim Erleben" as an audio file as well as in English and French.
