About us

The MARCHIVUM is Mannheim's Archive, House of City History and Remembrance. It emerged from the Mannheim City Archive - Institute for City History. Its beginnings date back to 1907, when it was founded by Mannheim's first city archivist Friedrich Walter. With the move into the new building, the Mannheim City Archive received the name MARCHIVUM on March 1, 2018. This name expresses the institution's self-image, which is committed to its tradition and at the same time is open to new developments.
