Discover Mannheim's city history

You can do this in two ways at the MARCHIVUM. During the house tours through our archive area, you will get a rare look behind the scenes and learn about original archive treasures of Mannheim's history. A tour through the multimedia and interactive city history exhibition "Typically Mannheim!" will give you an impression of the massive changes that have decisively shaped the city and its population over the course of 400 years. And the exhibition "Why should I care?" describes historic events in Mannheim during the Nazi dictatorship.

Permanent exhibitions

Public guided tours in German take place regularly on Sundays at 3 p.m. (city history exhibition) and at 4 p.m. (Nazi exhibition) with a maximum group size of 15 people. Registration is not required. The guided tour fee is € 2.50 per person plus admission.

Private guided tours (if necessary also in English) can be booked on request. Cost: 60 € plus admission for a one-hour guided tour with a maximum group size of 15 people. For larger groups, another guided tour can be offered at the same time. Guided tours for schools
We offer guided tours of the exhibitions for primary and secondary schools. We are happy to address teaching focal points by arrangement.
Duration: 60 minutes
Cost: 2 € admission per person plus 25 € for the guided tour with a maximum group size of 15 pupils, for larger groups, another guided tour can be offered at the same time.

Mediaguide

Our Mediaguide is geared to the specific needs of our visitors and accompanies them on their walk through the exhibition. The Mediaguide offers an accompanying track for the hearing impaired, for the visually impaired, and in plain language. The devices are available free of charge at the ticket office. In addition, two tactile floor plans provide orientation assistance at the beginning and halfway through the tour.

House and archive area
